Monodisperse hollow silica nanospheres have been prepared by using a polystyrene nanosphere template-assistant approach and their potential as antireflection (AR) coatings for window applications has been discussed. The as-prepared hollow silica nanospheres have a typical inner diameter of 200 nm and a shell thickness of 15–20 nm. The AR effect over the ultraviolet-visible-near infrared spectral region has been observed for the hollow silica nanospheres, with a minimized reflection of about 5.2 % at 500 nm, compared to 8.5 % of a plain float glass substrate. Abstract Modeling simplification related to occupant’s behavior is a major cause of gap between actual and model’s predicted energy use of buildings. This paper aims to identify those parameters of realistic occupants-related heat gains that actually cause this gap. ABSTRACT The path toward energy-efficient buildings with a low or zero carbon footprint, e.g. zero energy and zero emission buildings, involves the development of high-performance thermal insulation, aiming at reaching thermal conductivities far below 20 mW/(mK). In order to minimize the energy use for heating, passive houses for residential use are constructed using heavy insulation. In addition, they have minimal air leakages and no vents in exterior walls for direct supply of fresh air, and thus, mechanical ventilation systems are a mandatory requirement in such buildings. Abstract Use of photovoltaics (PV) is key remedies in buildings where a large part of the energy supply should be based on renewable energy. PV in Nordic climate can be challenging because of snow, wind and temperatures below zero. The aim of this research work has been to provide a state-of-the art overview of recent experiences and challenges for building physical conditions related to the use of roof-integrated PV in Nordic climate. The study has identified practical guidelines for installation and ventilation of the roofing as challenges to be solved for extensive use of such systems in Nordic climate.

The aim of the study was to define an energy supply solutions for a low-energy commercial building in cold climates. A new low-energy office building built with high quality building insulation better than the Norwegian passive building standard was analyzed by using EnergyPlus. The results showed that the heat pump solutions could be used to cover the building base load, while the peak load should be covered by additional energy sources. The main aim of the work has been to do modeling and calculations of the energy use, embodied emission and the total CO2-emission for a typical Norwegian residential building. By doing this we try to reveal and study the main drivers for the CO2-emission, and also which performance is necessary for components and solutions in a Zero Emission Building according to the current Norwegian ZEBdefinition.

Abstract The scope of this study is a comprehensive analysis of the greenhouse gas emissions from the partial substitution of triple-glazing units with argon gas (U-value of 0.79 W/m2 K) with double-glazing units with either monolithic aerogel (U-value of 0.65 W/m2 K) or granular aerogel (U-value of 0.31 W/m2d K). Dagens byggeforskrifter krever mye ekstra dokumentasjon om en ikke skal ha balansert ventilasjon, og dette legger i praksis sterke føringer for valg av ventilasjonsløsning. Imidlertid er klimagassutslipp med ulike ventilasjons-konsept i liten grad undersøkt.  

Tradisjonelt har norske småhus hatt et kaldt loft med lufteåpninger i takutstikket. Luftingen av loftet skulle både sørge for en kald takflate og hindre fuktskader på undertak og taksperrer. De siste årene har det blitt vanligere at småhus bygges med et uluftet, kaldt loftsrom. I stedet brukes et dampåpent undertak og lufting under taktekkingen. En del slike loftsrom har fått kondens og vekst av muggsopp på undertaket. Denne rapporten viser årsaker og viktige tiltak for å unngå problemet.
